WELL That didn't go as planned did it!!! 2020 was set to be my busiest year to date, living in Ibiza for the summer and multiple destination weddings spanning Italy, France, Greece, The Balearics as well as Brazil for a family wedding. I can officially say I successfully accomplished none of the above. It was a year of Pivoting (very much the red faced Ross Gellar moment, yelling "PIVOT" over and over again hoping for a different outcome). It seemed relentless and somewhat divisive in so many ways. I'm sure for most 2020 certainly won't be looked upon fondly for the hardship and pain that it created. BUT... While the year was pretty bleak for the most part, I somehow (still to my amazement) finished the year with 10 weddings, 6 incredible styled shoots, 9 features in the likes of Festival Brides, Rock My Wedding and Love My Dress and a very proud moment with... a double feature in Grazia!! While 2021 hasn't stepped out with it's best foot forward I have no doubt that I can achieve just as much, if not more and am so sooo excited to start working with my Brides and Grooms again. I want to share my optimism and give them the confidence boost they deserve to see in their weddings in spectacular style, regardless of the C word. If 2020 taught us anything, however cliche it sounds; Love Always Wins. Those 10 weddings I was a part of may not have been the 'Big fat wedding' originally planned, but they were some of the most spectacular and emotive days I have ever been a part of. Every couple agreed it was the best decision they made by taking charge of the situation, readdressing what the day was about and the meaning of their declaration to each other. It put perspective on how precious and unpredictable life is, and the thought of not marrying the love of their life wasn't a gamble they would have been willing to take/ put on hold (being married myself and having planned our wedding almost 6 years ago, I have no doubt in my mind that we too would have done exactly the same). Regardless of the countless times Boris threw a spanner in the works, my couples went ahead with their micro weddings and honestly they were so incredibly special. I know a small wedding isn't going to be everyones cup of tea and have always stood by the ethos of your wedding day is about what you and your partner want and not feeling the pressure to please everyone else. If waiting 2 or 3 years in order to take the pressure off or to have the big party is your thing then go for it. But I just want to share my experience of these intimate weddings and elopements which I do believe will continue to grow in popularity through 2021. And let me say.... small certainly doesn't mean less luxurious! Keep planning Ladies and Gents, we'll get there in the end. And ohhh what a day it will be when your time comes around! If you are still looking for a hair and/ or makeup artist my diary for 2021 was (back in December) almost fully booked for weekends... however it is in a state of flux at the moment with availability popping up here and there due to postponements so please do get in touch to discuss and I'll let you know if i'm free/ how I'm dealing with waiting lists and postponements. We managed to squeeze her consultation in 4 days before the wedding (eek) and to be honest Polly had no idea what she wanted so we spent around 5 hours trying to figure out what to do all while she was having major second thoughts about her dress. Not ideal! Being a mum, she typically didn’t have time to do her own makeup or hair day to day. Nor did she get the opportunity to play dress up, and the thought of all the fuss and expectations of the big white wedding were giving her serious anxiety & sleepless nights- she never thought she’d get married and yet there she was right in the middle of a wedding being put together in her back garden, pretty much project managing the whole thing herself. On the wedding day I let myself in, Polly running round trying to do everything for everyone else, 5 under 5’s running loose, the rain hammering down, the bridesmaids hairstylist cancelled that morning, it was frantic and she was exhausted. She sat in my chair and sobbed. You see the thing is with weddings no matter how hard we try as brides not to let the occasion take over (physically & emotionally) it somehow does. And that’s where I step in. To have you sitting with me, undisturbed for two hours where I pamper you and make you feel like the queen you are, taking your mind far from “are the flowers as I expected, has the set up finished, what’s the time, what hasn’t been done”. That time is priceless. For any bride contemplating doing both their own hair and makeup I would suggest it’s a bad, BAD idea!!! You need some time doing nothing, being distracted, where there’s no pressure and you can just be. Needless to say despite the rollercoaster of a morning, Polly (and I) were so happy with the look we put together but more importantly I managed to save my bride from a total meltdown and turned the time into a memorable morning to cherish. Mission accomplished 🖤 #bridalhair & #bridalmakeup by me Natalie-Danielle #beaconsfieldwedding #bridesbytalie My latest commercial is for @qvcbeauty - campaign directed by the amazingly talented Stephen Lally. The key watchwords: camp and diversity. It’s a nod to 90s glam, with a soupçon of peak Xanadu-era Olivia Newton-John thrown in for good measure! I wanted it to inclusive, diverse and joyfully camp.
. "It’s a bold creative departure for QVC Beauty and a rebrand for them. @qvc is a huge American brand with a perception of being conservative, so I’m thrilled they backed a campaign that’s avowedly tongue in cheek but - most importantly - embraces body, age and racial diversity. As a gay director I was adamant that we created a beauty campaign that’s diverse, and I’m so proud to say that we feature a cast of six international and multi-racial models. It shouldn’t be something we herald and should be a given - but in this current climate it’s important to champion. One small step for beauty . . !" Stephen Lally . So if you're a reality TV addict you'll probably know there's been a few images floating around of Dan Edgar with the Housewives of Chesire and A LOT of speculation as to why, since his split with fellow TOWIE member, Amber Turner.
One month later and the cat's out the bag! Back in February I was asked to be part of the hair and makeup team for ITVBe's new commercial with the ladies of "The Real Housewives of Cheshire" and some of your favourite TOWIE characters! Watch it here! Men's grooming by me for Pete Wicks & Liam "Gatsby" & Hair stylist to Tanya Bardsley, Ester Dee, Seema Malhotra & Lauren Pope. I'm delighted to say I've been feature again with an amazing group of creatives again on Rock My Wedding!!! Our Woodland Meets Industrial styled wedding collaboration was created to inspire couples who like to feel close to nature but also would like to incorporate somewhat industrial elements into their wedding day. Because Autumn and Winter weddings are still not as popular as spring or summer weddings we chose this amazing and colourful season to create something delightful to look at and inspirational to help with wedding planning. I discovered a week before our shoot that the trees outside already started their yearly transformation from lush summer green to shades of rusty red and yellow and brown and orange – which I for one always adored. Autumn has a very special place in my heart for sure. Continue reading on Rock My Wedding www.rockmywedding.co.uk/woodland-meets-industrial/ ![]()
